U.S. cycling legend Steve Tilford was killed in an auto accident in the early morning hours of April 5, 2017. Tilford was driving eastbound on I-70 in western Colorado with his friend Vincent Davis when Tilford's van struck an overturned semi truck. Both men survived the initial impact, but Tilford was killed shortly thereafter when a second semi crashed into the accident scene.
Tilford, 57, was a veteran competitor on the road, track, mountain bike and in cyclocross. He was a long time sponsored rider, spokesman and friend of Colorado-based custom framebuilder Kent Eriksen Cycles, and wrote a very popular blog about his life in cycling, www.stevetilford.com.
All of us at Handbuilt Bicycle Guide offer our deepest sympathies to Steve's family and to his many friends, fans and readers.
